This fills us with pride!

Discover our corporate history.

Our company history stretches back over 180 years, beginning with our founder, the plumber Julius Pintsch, and his gas installations in Berlin in 1843.

So how have we developed over the years into a leading manufacturer of safety-related products for railway infrastructure? With light! Find out more about our history and the innovative power behind it.

1843 – Foundation
1869

PINTSCH supplies 105 light buoys for the newly opened Suez Canal.

1870

PINTSCH introduces compressed oil-gas train lighting to the railway.

A versatile company

In 1843 Julius PINTSCH founds his plumber’s business in Berlin, in 1847 he opens the first branch factory in Breslau and in 1872 a light bulb factory in Fürstenwalde. By 1907, he already owns three external companies and combines them to form Julius Pintsch AG. In 1924, he merges with Berlin-Anhaltische Maschinenbau A.G. (B.A.M.A.G.) to form Bamag Meguin AG. After the Second World War, Julius Pintsch West-KG is founded with headquarters in Frankfurt, Erkrath and Hamburg. In 1947, the Dinslaken plant is built, which today houses our company headquarters. In 1953, PINTSCH BAMAG AG is founded. But there is much more …

1900

PINTSCH develops the first mechanical railway barrier.

1919

Approx. 350,000 railway carriages are equipped with PINTSCH lighting.

1929

The first electrical signalling systems are put into operation.

1947

Carbon pressure regulators, power converter systems, rotary piston gas meters, signal construction, railway carriage equipment, navigation signals, control and regulation systems for drive technology – this product range comes with the founding of the Dinslaken plant.

First diversify, then focus

In 1967, Baron Hans-Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza takes over PINTSCH-BAMAG AG. In 1970, the plant in Dinslaken is acquired by Maschinenfabrik STROMAG, and, in the same year, PINTSCH BAMAG Antriebs- und Verkehrstechnik GmbH is founded. In 1987, SCHALTBAU GmbH buys the company. From then on, specific product groups are taken over from sister companies, e.g. by adding warning technology and pantographs. In 2007, the acquisition of BUBENZER BREMSEN leads to the establishment of PINTSCH BUBENZER GmbH in Kirchen/Dinslaken a year later. However, PINTSCH also sells off some subsidiaries and product groups: The pantograph division is sold to a French company in 2006. In 2015, the navigation signals division is transferred to Julius Signalisation B.V. – and the warning technology division is taken over by the Swedish Standby Group in 2016. In 2018, PINTSCH BUBENZER is sold to the Swedish Dellner Group. With the sale of non-railway business areas, PINTSCH is thus setting its points in the direction of focussing on railway infrastructure from 2017.

1965

The first electronic signalling system for level crossing protection is delivered to DB.

1994

Point heating systems become part of the PINTSCH product range.

How PINTSCH GmbH has emerged

In 1994, the subsidiary PINTSCH ABEN, based in Maarssen in the Netherlands, is founded through a partial acquisition of SINUS ABEN B.V. – thus the point heating system becomes a PINTSCH product. In 2012, PINTSCH acquires TIEFENBACH GmbH in Sprockhoevel, strengthening the sensor, haulage and railway signalling technology division with PINTSCH TIEFENBACH GmbH. And in 2019, PINTSCH BAMAG, PINTSCH ABEN and PINTSCH TIEFENBACH are merged to form PINTSCH GmbH – today’s company. In 2021, PINTSCH acquires Wolber Antriebstechnik GmbH: PINTSCH WOLBER GmbH in Velbert is born. In the same year, the PINTSCH Development Centre is opened in Dinslaken, and a second location is added in Braunschweig in 2023.

2012

Sensor, haulage and railway signalling technology are now part of the PINTSCH portfolio.

2021

Point machine technology is added through the acquisition of Wolber Antriebstechnik GmbH.

From Germany to the world

In 1994, we founded our subsidiary PINTSCH ABEN, based in Maarssen in the Netherlands, and in 2009 Shenyang PINTSCH BAMAG Transportation & Energy Equipment Co. in China. In 2013, this was followed by the foundation of PINTSCH BAMAG Brasil Tecnologia Ferroviária Ltda. in Brazil. These initial global activities have now resulted in a targeted presence at six locations: in Germany in Dinslaken, Braunschweig and Velbert, in the Netherlands in Utrecht and in Illinois, USA. And since our founding of PINTSCH France in 2024, we are now also represented in Strasbourg, France.
